The marlin seem to have gone into hiding the past 4 or 5 days…last week there were blue and black marlin around and most boats were seeing 1 marlin per day…this week there were very few marlin sightings.

The sailfish and mahi mahi bite has also scattered some with most of the sailfish being reported way to the south.  The boats fishing out of Los Suenos Marina have been running south to find the fish.  An average day on the water seems to be 2 -4 sails and maybe a mahi mahi or 2.

I went out with Captain James yesterday with some friends from Texas.  We had a great day…the weather was perfect, the ocean calm, the beers cold and we ended the day with 6 sailfish.  We started fishing about 30 miles south and ended up in a spot about 40 miles south.  We didn’t see a fish all morning but when James found the fish the bite heated up and we caught 6 fish in 2 hours.  We had a couple big mahi mahi come up in the spread but they just came and went.

I went out with the same group of guys on Wednesday for a 1/2 day inshore with Captain Jorge.  We ran about 15 miles south and found some big schools of jack with some roosterfish mixed in.  We had live mullet and caught a few fish on those but most of the fish preferred a blue Yozuri popper.  We caught 15 jack in the 15-30 pound range and one 20 pound roosterfish.  Topwater action for anything is some of the best fishing and those big jack pull like a freight train on light tackle.
