CENTRAL PACIFIC
Jaco Beach, Hermosa Beach, Quepos & Manuel Antonio

The Los Sueños Marina near Jaco Beach and the Quepos - Manuel Antonio area are the hot spots for Sport Fishing on the Central Pacific coast. Sailfish are the main targets for most anglers and they are seldom disappointed. Offshore fishing is normally done 12-20 miles out in blue water.

Once in the blue water anglers catch Sailfish, Marlin, Tuna, Dorado and Wahoo. Inshore fishing is done around rocks, reefs, river mouths and estuaries and anglers catch Roosterfish, Snapper, Jacks, Mackerel, Snook and more.

NORTHERN PACIFIC
Flamingo Beach, Tamarindo, Samara & Carillo

Flamingo Beach has a marina and is the main hot spot for Sport Fishing on the Northern Pacific Coast. There are also charter boats available out of Coco’s Beach, Tamarindo, Ocotal, Potero, Brasilito, Nosara, Garza, Samara and Carillo beach. The Northern Pacific is famous or its Marlin and Sailfish action, but anglers also catch lots of Tuna, Dorado, Wahoo, Roosterfish, Snapper, Jacks, Mackerel, and more.

SOUTHERN PACIFIC
Drake Bay, Mata Palo, Puerto Jimenez & Golfito

Golfito is the largest town on Costa Rica’s Southern Pacific coast, but there are about a half a dozen Sport Fishing operators scattered between Drake Bay, Golfo Dulce, Golfito, Puerto Jimenez, and Zancudo Beach. The Southern Pacific is famous for its incredible inshore fishing. The really Big Snapper and Roosterfish are consistently caught here every year. The Southern Pacific, like the rest of the Pacific Coast has excellent offshore fishing for Sailfish, Marlin, Tuna, Dorado, Wahoo and more.

CARIBBEAN COAST
Barra del Colorado, Rio Colorado, Rio Tortugero and Rio Parisima

The Rio Colorado area on the Northern Caribbean coast has been world famous for Tarpon and Snook fishing since the 1960s. Fish the rivers, lagoons and river mouths for Tarpon that average 100 pounds and Snook that average 20 pounds. In recent years many operators have started using larger boats. These larger boats not only make it easier to get out of the river mouths and catch Tarpon but it has made offshore fishing available for fisherman wanting to catch Atlantic Sailfish, Atlantic Blue Marlin, Wahoo and Dorado. There are not many Sport Fishing operators on the Southern Caribbean coast. But the local fishermen catch Tarpon, Snook, Jack, Tuna, Dorado and more.

NORTH CENTRAL REGION
Rio Frio, Cano Negro, Lake Nicragua and San Juan river

Lake Arenal, Rio Frio River, Caño Negro Lagoon, Lake Nicaragua and the San Juan River are the major fishing spots in the northern part of Costa Rica and the southern part of Nicaragua. Fish on beautiful Lake Arenal and Lake Nicaragua for “Guapote”, the Guapote is basically a Central American Bass although it’s technically a member of the Cichlid family. The Guapote can grow to over 12 pounds; they have a mouthful of teeth, a big lump on their forehead and fight twice as hard as any Largemouth or Smallmouth Bass. Fish the Rio Frio River, Cano Negro Lagoon and the San Juan River for Tarpon, Snook, Guapote and more. These areas receive very little fishing pressure and there are still giant Tarpon and Snook caught here every year.
