Costa Rica Fishing Report and The School of the World in Jaco Beach have come together to offer a unique sport fishing vacation experience… The Costa Rica Fishing School.

Costa Rica is the jewel of Central America and home to some of the best sportfishing in the world. The Costa Rica Fishing School is located in Jaco Beach and we fish out of the Los Suenos Marina…the finest resort and marina in Central America.

Get hands on fishing experience with some of the best captains and best boats in Costa Rica. Learn (on the water) how to prepare for, find and catch Sailfish, Marlin, Mahi-Mahi, Tuna, Wahoo, Roosterfish, Snapper, Grouper, Snook and more.

From novice to experienced fisherman, we’ll customize the learning to match your skill level. We cover boat equipment, boat safety, navigation, electronics, finding fish, bait rigging, live bait, dead bait, lures, species tactics, trolling, bottom fishing, hooking fish, bait & switch, circle hooks, fighting fish, boat handling, releasing fish, fly fishing, light tackle, tournament fishing, careers in fishing, new technology, new techniques and more. Basically we have fun and learn something.

Our basic *inclusive package for 7 days, 6 nights with 4 full days deep sea fishing is just $1950.

*price doesn’t include airfare, taxes, duties, ½ of your meals & personal expenses
*price based on 3 anglers per boat and lodging at School of the World

Offshore package (Sample Schedule)

Sunday-

Arrive in Costa Rica and we’ll have a shuttle van with refreshments waiting to pick you up at the airport in San Jose and drive you to Jaco Beach. Once in Jaco the first thing we’ll do is get you to the School of the World (or optional lodging) so you can get unpacked and settled in. You’ll receive a brief welcome and a welcome pack with information about the school, the schedule and the Jaco area. You will also receive a FREE dinner at bubba’s…it’s one of the best tacos you will ever have. Sunday night is a free night; you can stay home and relax or go out and explore Jaco.

Monday-

Before 9 am- free time for sleep, surf, breakfast or explore.

9 am- 1 pm- LAB #1 (Disco Pirate or Predator– 27 ft)
basic intro, customized to skill level.

on the water basic intro: weeks schedule, sport fishing, equipment, boat, species, safety, tactics, techniques, bait rigging, navigation, local hotspots and more…lunch and drinks included.

1 pm- 5 pm- Offshore Fishing - light tackle (Disco Pirate or Predator– 27 ft)

on the water experience: light tackle offshore fishing for Sailfish, Dorado & Tuna. hand’s on introduction to all aspects of boats, equipment, safety, navigation, electronics, lures, rigging baits, setting spread, trolling, finding fish, hooking fish, fighting fish, handling fish, handling boat, gaffing fish, releasing fish and more.

6 pm ish - return to School of World (or optional lodging)

After 6 pm- free time for sleep, Spanish class, dinner, party or explore.

Tuesday-

Before 8 am- free time for sleep, surf, breakfast or explore.

8 am – 4 pm- full day Offshore Fishing (Miss Behavin- 32 ft)

on the water experience: offshore fishing for Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Tuna & Wahoo. hand’s on introduction to all aspects of boats, equipment, safety, navigation, electronics, lures, rigging baits, catching bait, setting spread, finding fish, hooking fish, fighting fish, handling fish, handling boat, gaffing fish, releasing fish, tagging fish and more…includes lunch, snacks and drinks.

5 pm ish - return to School of World (or optional lodging)

6 pm – 8 pm- dinner @ bubba’s with Captain Offshore - Q & A - review video tapes

Captain Offshore Q & A including: marlin tactics, sailfish tactics, boat safety, boat communication, equipment, setting drag, lines, leaders, knots, crimps, rigs, electronics, navigation, currents, weather, finding the fish, reading structure, food chain, choosing baits, live bait tactics, catching bait, dead bait tactics, rigging bait, anchoring, drifting, trolling, chumming, setting the spread, teasers, dredges, spreader bars, lure tactics, bait and switch, fly fishing, kite fishing, circle hooks, hooking a fish, hooking multiple fish, fighting fish, fish at the boat, boat handling, wiring fish, gaffing fish, tagging fish, releasing fish, new technology, new techniques, careers in fishing, being a captain, being a mate for a captain, boat maintenance, handling clients, tournament fishing, breaking world records and more.

After 8 pm- free time for sleep, Spanish class, dinner, party or explore.

Wednesday-

Before 9 am- free time for sleep, surf, breakfast or explore.

9 am- 12 pm- LAB #2 - classes customized to skill level
classes customized to meet anglers’ request.

For example: rigging live bait, rigging dead bait, rigging teasers, rigging a dredge, rigging a daisy chain, proper knots, proper crimps.

1 pm- 5 pm- 1/2 day Explore Costa Rica (canopy tour, quad tour, croc tour, waterfall tour, ect.)

6 pm ish - return to School of World (or optional lodging)

After 6 pm- free time for sleep, Spanish class, dinner, party or explore

Thursday-

Before 8 am- free time for sleep, surf, breakfast or explore.

8 am- 4 pm- full day Deep Sea Fishing & Bottom Fishing (Miss Behavin- 32 ft)

on the water experience: Deep Sea fishing and Bottom fishing for Sailfish, Marlin, Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo, Grouper, Roosterfish, Snapper, Jack, and more. Hand’s on introduction to all aspects of boats, equipment, safety, navigation, electronics, lures, catching bait, rigging baits, trolling, drifting, downriggers, planers, setting spread, finding fish, hooking fish, fighting fish, handling fish, handling boat, gaffing fish, releasing fish and more.

5 pm ish- return to School of World (or optional lodging)

6 pm – 8 pm- dinner @ bubba’s with Captain Deep Sea & Bottom Fishing - Q & A - video

Captain Deep Sea Fishing Q & A including: species tactics, boat safety, boat communication, equipment, setting drag, lines, leaders, knots, crimps, rigs, electronics, navigation, currents, weather, finding the fish, reading structure, food chain, choosing baits, live bait tactics, catching bait, dead bait tactics, rigging bait, anchoring, drifting, trolling, chumming, setting the spread, teasers, dredges, spreader bars, lure tactics, bait and switch, fly fishing, kite fishing, circle hooks, hooking a fish, hooking multiple fish, fighting fish, fish at the boat, boat handling, wiring fish, gaffing fish, tagging fish, releasing fish, new technology, new techniques, careers in fishing, being a captain, being a mate for a captain, boat maintenance, handling clients, tournament fishing, breaking world records and more.

After 8 pm- free time for sleep, Spanish class, dinner, party or explore.

Friday-

Before 8 am- free time for sleep, surf, breakfast or explore.

8 am – 4 pm- full day Offshore Fishing Mini-Tournament (Miss Behavin – 32 ft)

on the water experience: Mini Fishing Contest for Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Tuna and Wahoo – Pick your location, rig your own baits, choose your teasers and lures and set your own spread, find your fish, hook your fish, fight and release your fish. Use everything you’ve learned this week and win prizes for big fish.

5 pm ish - return to School of World (or optional lodging)

6 pm –8 pm- Party at OZ…food, prizes & fun

After 8 pm- free time for sleep, dinner, party or explore.

Saturday-

If you’re going home, get packed up and checked out of School of the World (or optional lodging) and we’ll get you on a shuttle bus with refreshments back to San Jose for your Flight back home. Thanks for coming, we hope you come back and we hope you had a great experience.

If you are staying in Fishing School another week you get the weekend off to relax and explore Costa Rica.

If you are going Tarpon, Snook & Gaupote fishing you leave early in the morning and either fly or drive to our fishing spot. These waters are remote and you really need 3 full days to do it right.
