Fish of the Month – Sailfish (Pez Vela)
Everyone expects the Sailfish bite to get hot in February.
Although the Marlin bite has been above average as predicted the Sailfish is still the king in the Pacific waters of Costa Rica. The Sailfish numbers have been average this season with some people blaming “el niño” for the late arrival of the Sailfish. Everyone expect the Sailfish bite to get hot soon. When the bite gets hot boats raise 10-40 Sailfish a day generally 20 to 30 miles out.
Please catch and release all billfish quickly.
World Record: 141 lbs. 1 ounce Luanda, Angola (Atlantic)
221 lbs. Santa Cruz, Ecuador (Pacific)

Fish Report
Congrats to Captain Tony and the crew of the “Stephanie Lee” for their victory in the 2007 Los Suenos Signature Billfish Series. The winning team ended up releasing 5 Blue Marlin and 21 Sailfish.
Captain Tom and some friends recently fished the Furuno Bank down by Quepos. The day time bite was a bit slow but the night time bite was hot. Highlights included a dozen Mutton Snapper a half a dozen nice Cubera Snapper.
Matt from Jaco and five of his buddies from the states drug themselves away from the “nightlife” long enough to go fishing on the “Red Baron”. They caught 6 Sailfish and a 40 pound Dorado.
Give me a call or send an email with your fish story for the next “Costa Rica Fishing Report”.
