The first leg of the Los Suenos Billfish tourney starts today…There are 40-50 boats participating in the 4 day event.

It seems like the sailfish and marlin bites are heating up just in time.  The boats that went out yesterday caught more sailfish than they have the past week and there were many boats that raised and released marlin.

Captain Bill on the Sailfish went 6 for 9 on sailfish and raised a marlin.

Captain Dave on the Missbehavin released 3 sailfish and raised a marlin.

There were lots of guys prefishing the tournament and they keep pretty tight lipped about what they caught and where but the word I get is boats were averaging 5-8 sailfish and a shot at a marlin or two.

The fishing also seems to be picking up in other parts of Costa Rica.

The Blue Pearl in Quepos released 6 sailfish, 1 blue marlin and they kept a mahi mahi for the grill.

Captain Lee on the Kingpin in Tamarindo raised 7 striped marlin yesterday and released 2.  It seems like the striped marlin that were here last month have started to make their way up north.

Above is a photo sent to me by Todd Staley at Crocodile Bay.  This is called a “release photo” and we are encouraging everyone to take this type of photo instead of pulling the sailfish and marlin out of the water and overstressing or possibly killing them just for a photo.
