July 31, 2009 – yellowfin tuna

The fishing the past week has been more of the same out of the Los Suenos Marina.  Everyone is catching fish…mainly at the “26” rock for mahi mahi, tuna and wahoo.

Several groups did half day trips and they all caught some good eating fish at the “26”.

There were a couple boats this week that found the yellowfin tuna offshore.  The guys on the 28. Carolina Classic caught a handful of tuna in the 60 to 80 pound range.  We all hope that is a sign of things to come.

I leave in the morning for my first vacation in 4 or 5 years.  I am going to a small island in the Caribbean called Old Providence.  www.oldprovidence.com.co.

It’s a beautiful little island with incredible water, great seafood, friendly people and 50 cent beers.

I will gone from Sunday to Sunday and I am going by myself and fishing for 5 days.  The last time I went to Providence I caught 40 yellowfin tuna per day…all in the 10 to 20 pound range.   This time I am going after wahoo, kingfish, yellowfin, yellowtail, snapper, grouper and hopefully some bonefish and blue marlin…we shall see.

There is one internet cafe on the island so I am hoping to check emails and update my blog a couple times while I am gone.
