August 14, 2009 – good inshore fishing and some tuna

I still seem to be stuck on vacation time for some reason.  I am finally getting caught up on emails and return phone calls but it ain’t easy.  I miss my island routine of fishing, motorcycle, food, nap, rinse and repeat.

The roosterfish bite was red hot while I was out of country.  Both Los Suenos and Quepos charter boats have been banging around the rocks on the inside and catching some nice roosterfish…even on the half day trips.

My buddies and Captain RJ took our 26′ Seaswirl out for a half day and caught 4 nice roosterfish close to home…see photo above.

The guys on te 36′ Topaz caught 5 roosterfish with a family group from Florida.

The guys on the 26′ Regulator caught 3 big roosterfish in the 40 to 50 pound range over by Negritas.

The captain of the 28′ Carolina Classic has had the boss in town so they have been going offshore for some tuna and doing some bottomfishing.  Offshore they ran 30 to 35 miles and into some 40 to 50 pound tuna and caught a handful.  While bottom fishing they caught amberjack, painted grouper, broomtail grouper, silky snapper and more.

The crew of the 28′ Center Console took a couple out the other day and caught 2 nice mahi mahi and missed a 400 pound black marlin.  The guy has the big marlin fever because he immediately called and wants to go again tomorrow.
